Introductory remarks will be given on Friday evening at a
donors and wounded warriors reception at the Clayton Opera House by Tom and Nellie Coakley of
Canton, NY. The Coakleys were recently interviewed by Tom Brokaw about
their experiences as Vietnam veterans.
Saturday, July 19, 2008
Water sports and educational clinics will take place throughout
the day including rowing a traditional St. Lawrence skiff, sailing
solo or with an experienced instructor or kayaking the quiet waters of
French Creek. Jan Whitaker, director of Cape Ability Outrigger Ohana,
Inc., will be bringing outrigger canoeing to the Museum. For those
anxious to try waterskiing appropriate equipment will be available and
for those just wanting to stay landbound, fishing off the dock is an
option.
How about a
speedboat ride? Bring a secure hat and hold on to your camera while
thundering down the River in a gleaming mahogany triple-cockpit
runabout from the Museum’s fine collection of wooden boats.
Speakers
will present the latest in technology and equipment for enabling
people with a variety of disabling conditions to live actively and
engage in fun fitness building activities. Guest speakers include:

of the DEC and Jerry Kerr, President of DRAFT (Segways for Vets).
