FRIDAY, JUNE 16, 2010: Antique Boat Museum
8:30 to 9:30: Registration, continental breakfast
9:30: Chris Waddell, paralympic gold medal skier
will share his adventure of being the first man to summit Mt.
Kilimanjaro using arm power alone!
10:00: Jon Kuniholm, biomedical engineer at Duke
University will share his work in developing prosthetic robotic
hands that work through electronic links to the brain. Jon is both a
researcher and an end user, having lost a hand to an IED as a
soldier in Iraq.
10:30 to 12:30: Sailing, kayak paddling, fishing,
yoga, skiff rowing, rides in the antique wooden speedboats from the
Museum's collection.
12:30 to 1:30: Lunch
1:30 to 4pm: Sailing, kayak paddling, fishing,
skiff rowing, rides in the antique wooden speedboats from the museum
collection.
Event Notes:
Each session for the sports venues will last about a half hour. This
will allow all participants to try all venues if they wish.
Note that yoga is offered during the morning sessions only.
This is a rain or shine event. Activities on the water will be
curtailed in the presence of thunder and lightning. However, most
will take place in the event of light rain. Please dress
accordingly.
Padding, life vests and transfer equipment will be available. But feel
free to bring any additional assistive devices you like to use or
you think might be helpful.
