North Country Access Announces Water Sporting Events in the 1000 Islands
1000 Islands, NY - North Country Access Cycling, Northern New York’s chapter of Disabled Sports, USA, is delighted to announce that North Country Access 2008 will be held Friday July 16, 2010 at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY.

North Country Access 2010 is an all-day all-abilities water sports recreation event taking place on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. Children and adults with mobility impairments, sensory limitation or other disabling conditions will have the chance to fully participate and are encouraged to register for this rare opportunity in a world that is not designed with disability in mind.

Designated as a Wounded Warriors Disabled Sports event, recently injured veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be participating. “This is our chance to show support for those who have served by engaging them as part of our community. Recreation and participation in sports have been shown to provide a foundation for development of a positive self-image and to lessen the emotional and psychological trauma of war and injury. This is a transformative factor in
leading a productive and independent life. We are delighted and honored to have a role in that healing process,” states Susan Zabriskie, event chair.

Water sports and educational clinics will take place throughout the day Friday, July 16 including rowing a traditional St. Lawrence skiff, sailing solo or with an experienced instructor or kayaking the quiet waters of French Creek.

For those anxious to try waterskiing appropriate equipment will be available and for those just wanting to stay landbound, fishing off the dock is an option.

How about a speedboat ride? Bring a secure hat and hold on to your camera while thundering down the River in a gleaming mahogany triple-cockpit runabout from the Museum’s fine collection of wooden boats.

Speakers will present the latest in technology and equipment for enabling people with a variety of disabling conditions to live actively and engage in fun fitness building activities. Guest speakers include Jonathan Kuniholm and Chris Waddell.

There are sponsor and partner opportunities still available. Individuals, corporations, foundations and non-profits interested in joining as a sponsor or partner are encouraged to contact the North Country Cycling by calling (315) 782-2838 or via email at northcountryaccess2008@gmail.com.

Opportunities exist at the Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Individual Donor levels. Cash, product, service and in-kind sponsorship agreements are welcomed and packages may be tailored on an individual basis to best meet the needs of the sponsor or donor.
